In 2023, Jammu and Kashmir became a global tourism hub, welcoming 2.02 crore tourists and over 50 thousand foreign visits. Focus was on various tourism offerings including MICE tourism with U/T hosting key events like the G20 Tourism with U/T hosting key events like the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting. There has been more than a 700 per cent increase in foreign tourist arrival in Kashmir last year compared to 2022 with travel agents doling out new services to lure more high end-visitors.
Against 4028 foreign guests in 2022, in the first eight months of this year 30647 arrivals have been recorded, an official of the Tourism department said. Most of the foreign tourists who visited Kashmir this year were from Europe, Thailand, Malaysia.
The recent spur in tourism is attributed to the endless effort of the Centre to develop tourism and provide ways and means to the jobless youth in Kashmir. According to officials 2024 is doing better than the last year breaking record thus showing increasing trend year wise.
